Dear Owner and Guest,

We assume that by now you have heard that Hurricane Gonzalo moved over St. Maarten Monday night. We want to update you on the condition of Oyster Bay Beach Resort and of St. Maarten as of this time. Our information is limited but we will inform you of what we know now. We expect to publish further information periodically.

No one at OBBR, either guest or staff has been injured. Sadly, we have to report on the death of one Islander, so far. The storm is reported to have reached Hurricane force wind speeds but the actual force has not yet been published. it was a substantial Hurricane. The current situation as of 5:00PM on Tuesday is:

Infinity Restaurant and Bar are fully operational. Beau Beau’s is closed for the time being. Further updates on the reopening will be forthcoming. Indulgence Spa is open for business. The gym is also open. Shipwreck Shop is closed but we expect it to open shortly. The beach has re-opened.

We have experienced some interruptions to usual services. The force of the wind caused many of the air conditioner compressors to be dislodged from their connections on the roofs of the buildings. We are working to resolve this problem. However, some of the rooms may not have air conditioning for an extended time period until new compressors can be installed.Rooms where the air conditioning is not up to full power can be cooled by the ceiling fans that are in each room. We can’t project at this time when we will have full air conditioning restored.

The pool is currently out of service to remove debris. We intend to drain it clean it and refill it. We estimate that it should be back in operation by the beginning of next week. We will provide a more exact date as quickly as possible.

The telephone lines , WIFI and television cable are reported to be functioning.

For any guest who has a reservation in the coming week, we intend to be open with the understanding that due to the clean up after the storm not all of our amenities may be available We will do our best to make it a great and uniquely memorable vacation. If any reserved guest decides that they want to postpone their vacation with us until we are 100%, we will be happy to make arrangements to rebook them at a time when we are confident that the repairs will be completed or facilitate an exchange through II, for owners. We will not charge a fee for rebooking. If any hotel guest wants a deposit refund we will be happy to oblige.

We thank all of the in house guests and staff members who came through a difficult storm and then helped after the storm to clean up and make what repairs they could. We also thank the guests at the resort for their understanding and patience during and now after the storm.

We will keep you informed. Several pictures depicting the resort this morning are attached. There has been a great effort on the part of the staff and many of the owners and other guests to clean the resort up and they have done a remarkable job. We are appreciative.

During the up- coming weeks we will do everything we can to quickly restore full use of amenities at the resort. In the meantime we will make available alternative activities to the guests as well.

We thank all of the guests and staff members who came through a difficult storm and then helped after the storm to clean up and make the repairs they could. We also thank the guests at the resort for their understanding and patience during this period.

We will keep you informed.
