Owners at OBBR have exclusive options to upgrade their units, and split their weeks, if included in their Purchase Agreement, for a modest fee.

Effective Sunday October 14, the fees for upgrading to a one, or two bedroom unit or splitting the usage of a unit will be as follows:

• Upgrading from a One-Bedroom to a Two-Bedroom: US$ 175.00
• Upgrading from a Studio to a Two-Bedroom: US$ 350.00
• Split fee: US$ 325.00

Dear Owners,

To show our appreciation and dedication to the Resort and to the owners, we’re committed to continually enhancing the OBBR experience for the Owners and all our guests. We’re doing this by aggressively moving forward with our ambitious plan to complete the renovations of the entire resort within the next two years. The comprehensive and systematic renovation of the Resort was started two years ago.

First, we have an exciting announcement regarding OBBR’s infinity swimming pool. This signature attraction will be completely restored to its original, like-new condition. The pool will be completely refinished with a Diamond Bright concrete aggregate surface and all new stylish glass tiles along the waterline. The Spa (hot tub) will be included in the complete refurbishment of the infinity pool. All the lights will be replaced with a modern, durable system that will maintain the rotating coloring of the fiber optics and LED lighting illuminating the pool for night swimming or viewing. According to OBBR General Manager Ricardo Perez, “The pool is still a marvel of the Island. The view along the infinity edge is unrivaled. It features the best views of the Island of St. Barth’s from anywhere on St. Maarten — a mere 10 miles across the channel. With the restoration of the modern and mesmerizing fiber optic lighting system we will ensure that even after the day light has faded the pool will remain the iconic structure that helps make Oyster Bay uniquely beautiful day and night.”

Because of the extensive nature of these pool renovations, the pool will be closed from approximately September 17 to October 8. To make up for any inconvenience, we’re offering special discount rates during this time. Second, extensive renovations to most of the Resort’s guest units are now completed, along with the addition of the new 40-unit Mainsail Pavilion. Ricardo reports renovation has commenced for the 21 ocean front units in buildings 24-28 (featuring about 10 feet of coral rock between them and the Atlantic Ocean). These units were taken out of service in mid June and are expected to be available by mid August. The style is the same vibrant — yet elegant and modern — Caribbean décor that first débuted with the opening of the Mainsail Pavilion. Renovations to these units will include new kitchen and bathroom granite counter tops, and new cabinets and kitchen equipment, as well as fresh paint and (where necessary) wall repairs and replacements. Also included are new appliances: dishwasher, microwave, stove, oven, refrigerator (including a full-size refrigerator for the lock-out unit as well), and a large screen HD TV. All the furniture and artwork — along with the bedding and mattress, pillows and soft goods (such as bedspreads and draperies) — will be replaced.

The interior design was provided by our designer, Kim Pabor, and the renovation work was planned and supervised by our architectural firm, Joseph Allen and Company and their principal architect, Joseph Sistler.

The world’s largest travel site, TripAdvisor.com, recently awarded Pearl Development’s Oyster Bay Beach Resort (OBBR) the 2012 Certificate of Excellence Award. To qualify for the Certificate of Excellence, OBBR maintained an overall rating of four or higher, out of a possible five, as reviewed by travelers on TripAdvisor. Additional criteria include the volume of reviews received within the last 12 months.

In a message sent to OBBR, the website stated, “Our travelers consistently commend your property with the highest praise, and we recognize your rating as an exceptional achievement. Only the very best in the business are awarded a Certificate of Excellence.”

“This is an exceptional achievement among the thousands of resorts reviewed online,” said OBBR Managing Director Ricardo Perez. He noted this award is the third international recognition Oyster Bay has received in 2012. Earlier this year the Travel + Leisure’s 500 World’s Best Hotels Awards survey, based on a poll of its readers, placed OBBR in the top five of resorts in the Caribbean, Bermuda and Bahamas category. In addition, OBBR also earned the highest rating designation of “Premier Resort” from Interval International, the major timeshare exchange company.

Perez attributes the resort’s success to its excellent customer service, extensive renovations, unique location and prudent financial management. “We have one of the finest teams of employees and managers in the Caribbean. Our dedication to exemplary customer service is one of our major keys to success. We treat our guests like family, and this is one of the many reasons we have such a high rate of repeat customers.”

Also important, Perez noted, was the effort made by the resort owners to constantly upgrade the resort. A new phase of renovating 27 more units will be completed by August. The units will be given a complete makeover with all new furnishing, appliances, bedding, drapes, paint and repairs, as well as many more room amenities. Almost all of the units at the resort have been completely renovated within the last two years. Since 2007, resort owners have invested nearly $19,000,000 in renovations and new construction.

TripAdvisor.com attracts more than 50 million monthly visitors, more than 60 million reviews and is operational in 30 countries. Because of the site’s profound influence on the tourism industry, Perez said he expects the award recognition to increase the occupancy of the resort.

During the unveiling Ricardo Perez, General Manager, thanked the land owner, Leslie Martina, owner of The Big Fish restaurant on Oyster Pond, for making the area available. He also thanked the Oyster Pond Estates Foundation for their support in allowing Oyster Bay Beach Resort to beautify the area with a prominent and distinctive marker for the Oyster Pond community. Perez noted that the sign will make a very helpful directional reference for instructions that are given to visitors that are unfamiliar with the area and ensure they reach the community at Oyster Pond rather than make an unscheduled visit to the French side.
