Important Construction Progress Updates

As you may remember, Pearl Development N.V., developer of the Oyster Bay Beach Resort (OBBR), announced its purchase of 11 of the 24 units in the neighboring Coral Beach Club (CBC) — along with the reception office – in February 2017. CBC is regarded as one of the most popular and highest-rated villa and townhouse resorts available for hotel occupancy on St. Maarten.

As such, we thought you’d like to know about the progress that we’re making at CBC in our reconstruction efforts to restore it as a unique and luxurious beach front community. (Note: This information was also shared with CBC owners.)

Contractors have been hard at work restoring each CBC villa to its luxurious pre-storm condition. We’ve placed orders for major elements of the renovation, including air conditioners, doors and windows, kitchens and bathroom cabinets, countertops, appliances, floor, wall tiles and hurricane shutters. We’ll order electrical and plumbing fixtures and landscape materials in January. Contractors are also making good progress on the common elements. We still expect to complete the entire project in June 2019.

We’re working diligently to open several of the beach view villas for occupancy in late February/early March, assuming everything progresses in accordance with plans. This includes villas 11, 12 and possibly 13. We intend to open reservations for CBC owners in January (assuming the contractor meets current projections). OBBR/CBC reservations representatives will confirm when we can take reservations.

We’re in contact with our exclusive exchange and luxury benefits provider, Preferred Residences, to let them know that we’re coming back “on line.” The affiliation with have with Preferred Residences gives CBC vacation owners access to many of the finest hotels and villas in the world at either discounted room rates or through an exchange of your week at CBC.

The benefits of the Preferred Residence Program are explained in the CBC Owner Membership booklet that CBC owners received at their point-of-purchase. It includes, without limitation, discounted room rates as well as golf packages in very exclusive hotels, resorts and golf clubs worldwide. The program also affords a trading capability for CBC owners’ use rights in a CBC villa for wonderful stays at exclusive member resorts (listed in the Preferred Residences Membership Booklet).

Currently, most of the services offered by membership in Preferred Residences are available to Coral Beach Club members. CBC owners can request further explanation and guidance in getting the most out of the affiliation by calling (866)-978-7278.

As villas are still under renovation, they’re not yet available for trading through the program. When some of the units open earlier than June 2019, they will be available to trade or to occupy.

Local Happenings: Oyster Bay

The owner of Big Fish restaurant (located in the main reception building) is hard at work restoring his very popular restaurant. He plans to open by mid-December.

The houses surrounding the Resort on the hills of Oyster Bay have been repaired and look beautiful again. The relighting of the hillside by so many residences is just in time for the holidays.

Island News of Reconstruction

Progress continues on reconstruction efforts throughout the island. Most importantly, the airport has assured island residents that the first floor of the airport terminal will be available by mid-December. The second floor is scheduled to be completed by mid-February 2019. This is very good news for all of St. Maarten and its guests, and it will be a recovery milestone. Attached are the most recently distributed flight schedules from most major points in the Eastern United States for flights to St. Maarten. As the airport approaches completion, the schedule will improve. Please check posted flight schedules for the most current update.

The Netherlands government has made $650,000,000 available to the Island for reconstruction, infrastructure repair and improvement, and for payment of government expenses and other programs. This will be spent over the next several years. The money is being distributed and monitored by the World Bank. The distributions are starting to have a very positive effect on the Island, spurring it to a faster and better recovery.
