How do I get to St. Maarten?

The main airport, Princess Juliana International (SXM), is located on the Dutch side of the island and served by several major airlines that fly from major US mainland cities. Most visitors connect directly from one of the hub cities or fly in via San Juan, Puerto Rico.

What documents will I need?

To determine what documents you will need to bring with you in order to enter the island, you can check the official St. Maarten web page at http://www.st-maarten.com/requirements.htm.


  • People traveling to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada are required to have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States. For specific details, visit http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html.
  • Passports are required to visit nearby islands of Anguilla, Saba and St. Barthelemy (St. Barths).
  • St. Maarten imposes a departure tax (currently US$35) that you must pay at the airport before you leave the island, unless it has been included in the cost of your airline ticket.

How do I get to the Resort from the airport?

To get to the Resort from the airport, you can catch a taxi or rent a car. Taxis are located just outside of arrivals at the airport and will cost you about US$30. You can rent a car at the airport, too.

How do I rent a car?

Renting a car is the easiest way to get around St. Maarten. The Resort can help you. Does the Oyster Bay Beach Resort have exercise facilities on site?

The Resort has a fitness center available to all registered guests and owners. Hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Can I use my cell phone on the island?

Depending on your carrier at home and your cellular plan your phone may work in St. Maarten.  We suggest contacting your carrier before traveling so you can familiarize and understand how your package works overseas.  Please note that voice and data roaming charges can add to be significant amount when traveling outside your home country.  Local cellular phones are available throughout the island for daily rental or purchase at nominal rate please contact us at reservations@obbr.com or you can talk to the concierge for assistance once you arrive to the resort.

Where is St. Maarten Located?

St. Maarten is in the Leeward Islands of the West Indies. (For seafaring types, that’s 18°N, 63°W.)

For those flying in, St. Maarten is 144 miles east of Puerto Rico or about a one-hour flight.

Should I bring an adapter?

Almost all of the hotels on St. Maarten’s Dutch side, including Oyster Bay Beach Resort, are wired with 110 volts, 60 Hz, so, if you are traveling from the USA, no converter is needed. European travelers will need and adapter and/or a transformer.

What is the dress code for the Island?

The dress code for the island of St. Maarten is generally casual. Jeans, shorts or even swimwear is usually accepted all over the island. When dining on the French side, you may consider dressing up a bit with your best Bermudas or some lightweight dress slacks. Nice and casual is the way to go.

How do I get married on the Island?

St. Maarten has requirements that non-residents must follow in order to marry on the island. Couples must be at least 21 to marry, and divorced persons must provide a valid divorce certificate. Birth certificates and passports are also required.

Can I attend a religious service on the island?

Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Baptist, Jewish, Methodist, Anglican, Jehovah’s Witness, Seventh-day Adventist, and Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints services are offered on the Island. Ask our front desk for a schedule.

What currency is used?

The official currency of Dutch St. Maarten is the Netherlands Antilles florin or guilder (NAfls.). In French St. Martin, it’s the Euro. But US dollars and major credit cards are widely accepted. Please note that some businesses do not accept American Express or credit cards, we suggest asking before being served.

Does Oyster Bay offer Internet access?

We offer you two ways to obtain Internet access:

If you bring your wifi ready device, you can sign up in the comfort of your room for a modest fee. The fee is charged by the day or by the stay. The fee is charged by the day or by the stay. Free wifi hotspots are available in the lobby and courtyard area of the Resort.

The Resort makes computers available in our lobby so that guests may access the Internet with their credit card.
