2016 ARDA Award OYster Bay Beach Resort Receives Another Prestigious Industry Award

Oyster Bay Beach Resort recently won a 2016 ARDA (American Resort Development Association) Gold award in Resort Design for the refurbishment of the Infinity Restaurant and Bar. The project was part of a continual, phased renovation process that began after the purchase of the resort by Pearl Development NV in 2003.

Florida-based architectural firm, Joseph Allan & Company, and the St. Petersburg Florida Design Firm, Pabor Designs, were retained to create an appealing modern Caribbean aesthetic for the restaurant and bar, which is open to owners, exchange guests, and visitors, and is known for its international cuisine. The sweeping renovation was completed in October (toward the end) of 2015 and has had an immediate, positive impact on guest satisfaction, service levels, and revenue.

This latest tribute is just one of the numerous accolades that Oyster Bay has earned for its commitment to delivering high-quality hospitality in all aspects of its operations. Joshua Gold, a Managing Director of Pearl Development NV, noted, “This award is very meaningful to us, because it acknowledges our ongoing enhancements and dedication to providing owners and guests with memorable vacation experiences in elegant, modern and enjoyable accommodations.

With scenic beach and ocean views, Oyster Bay Beach Resort is characterized by distinctive contemporary architecture and Caribbean style. In 2010, it was recognized with an ARDA award in Architecture and Design for the unique design of the Mainsail Pavilion, a four-story, forty unit, timeshare building, and the Lighthouse, an eight-story condominium building, topped with a 30-foot, all-glass dome, now a distinctive and attractive site on St. Maarten.

“We have invested millions of dollars to make Oyster Bay Beach Resort an appealing resort development with an outstanding setting, amenities, and services,” added Michael Dolente, a Managing Director of Pearl Development NV. “It is rewarding to have our efforts be so widely appreciated.”

Oyster Bay Beach Resort has received the Interval International Premier® designation every year since 2008. The annual award recognizes resorts that offer outstanding vacation experiences with state-of-the-art conveniences and modern features and appointments.

In acknowledgement of its exemplary customer service, travelers awarded Oyster Bay a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for the five consecutive years from 2011 to 2015. In addition, Travel + Leisure’s influential readers ranked the property one of the “Top 10 Top Family Hotels in the Caribbean, Bermuda, and the Bahamas” for 2013 and a “Top 5 Hotel for Value in the Caribbean” in 2012. The property and its staff have also garnered many local hospitality awards throughout the years.

The property is situated on a four-acre coral reef peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and Oyster Pond. Its spacious well-appointed units overlook white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, and a picturesque marina. A comprehensive array of amenities and activities, such as gourmet restaurants, full-service spa, oceanfront infinity pool, fully equipped fitness center, casino, live entertainment, golf, tennis courts, and various water sports, are available at or near the resort.

Courtyard Rooms Renovated Delightfully Designed Boutique Studio Apartments Planned for the Courtyard Rooms

In our quest to provide you with the most modern, comfortable and highest-quality accommodations at Oyster Bay Beach Resort, we’re excited to announce the Resort’s next upgrade and remodeling project is already underway!

Click here to view or download the the full size mood boards and floor plans.

Here’s the inside scoop from OBBR General Manager Ricardo Perez…

The latest project is the complete renovation of the 11, 2nd-floor Courtyard units in the Courtyard building. This is the same building where the lobby, check-in and activities desks are located. Just one flight below and you’re stepping onto our old world travertine courtyard across from the newly remodeled and upgraded Infinity Restaurant Lounge and Bar. The rooms are steps away from our fabulous Infinity Pool as well.

You’ll find most rooms not only offer great views of the pool and ocean, but also have spacious balconies with spectacular, breath-taking views. Three of the units have lofts and sleep four, but are still considered “studios” for timeshare reservation purposes.

New windows and sliding glass doors will be installed in the Courtyard units. Plus, the walls will also be reoriented to provide more room and direct access to the spacious balconies, exposed spiral stair to the lofts as well as to accommodate a new, compact kitchen facility (known as a “Breakfast Bar”). Included in this remodel is new Italian porcelain and wood style floor tiles for each unit’s interior. The raised surface gives it a real wood feel and good traction while using a material that will be easy to clean and not affected by the corrosive salt air environment.

The balconies and the exterior walks will be artistically crafted with travertine marble finishes. All furniture will be replaced with modern, Caribbean, “casual chic” furnishings. Complementing the new furniture and soft goods (bedding, drapes, bed naps and art) will be completely renovated bathrooms featuring top-of-the-line fittings, vanities, cabinets, showers, commodes, and designer tile work and marble counter tops. The new “Breakfast Bar” will contain a versatile kitchen, including a mini-fridge, microwave and conventional oven, sink, and a complete set of kitchen utensils. This will allow guests to enjoy full meals in their unit or on their balcony.

Joseph Sistler of Joseph Allan and Company, along with Kim Pabor of Pabor Designs, prepared the plans for the remodeling and redecorating. This is the same team of professionals that provided the Resort with many award-winning improvements, such as the Mainsail Pavilion, Spinnaker, The Lighthouse, and the Infinity Restaurant Lounge and Bar.

Joseph and Kim prepared three separate interior designs for the rooms. “They were all so attractive,” said Ricardo, “that we couldn’t decide which one to choose, so we decided to use all three.” Not only are we pleased to have been able to get each scheme in place, but they also help to maintain a separate identity for each room, which has been a tradition in the Courtyard Building since 1972. Each unit is named after an America’s Cup racing yacht champion. The names are on plaques by the doors of the units and will remain there after the renovation as a nod to the past traditions of the old Oyster Bay Yacht Club.”

Two of the designs will be used for four rooms each and one design for the remaining three rooms. The styles were selected with the old Caribbean style in mind while embracing the modernization of the rooms and the décor. The rooms will also be equipped with 40-inch flat screen HD TVs, hi-tech thermostatic sensors, Wi-Fi, and cable TV featuring 24 stations. The rooms will be built with special sound-reduction enhancements and sound-dampening materials, which will maximize guests’ peace and quiet.

We’re excited for our owners and guests to enjoy these unique units. We think that our new boutique style accommodations will be delightful and harken back to the past Caribbean casual luxury — but with modern day amenities. Their location right in the heart of the Resort should provide guests with added excitement and convenience in a tranquil ambience.

Infinity Restaurant and Bar Reopen

We celebrate with the owners and guests, the completion of the Infinity Restaurant and Bar and its reopening! Thank you for your patience while we worked these past months to provide you yet another stunning improvement to the Oyster Bay Beach Resort. With more than $1 million invested in the renovations, we’re confident it’s destined to become well-known as an elegant and stylish — yet casual — dining attraction for our owners and guests — as well as one of the island’s most popular dining and socializing locations.

The restaurant and bar turned out even better than we expected. You’ll enjoy its newfound elegance and vibrant Caribbean charm. A sophisticated sound system adds subtle, soothing and unique arrangements of music to enhance your dining experience.

Starting with the modern, yet very friendly and welcoming entry, Infinity has a whole new look — having been completely remodeled. All the furniture has been replaced and the ceilings and walls relocated and rebuilt. You’ll find the tables, chairs and accessories elegant and fun — with the chairs extremely comfortable. New artwork and accessories are part of the cool background look of the restaurant. There’s even a new dinner/cocktail lounge with a unique Caribbean-chic decor that’s neither restaurant nor bar, with drinks conveniently delivered. In addition, the restrooms were relocated, expanded and completely remodeled.

One of the most popular features of this remodel is the outdoor dining deck with its new and ultra-comfortable chairs, European-imported umbrellas, and newly installed opulent-looking slate floors — all overlooking the Infinity pool and the majestic Atlantic Ocean.

Our new, brightly painted blue and white bar, reminiscent of a Caribbean fishing boat, is twice the size of the former bar, allowing us to comfortably serve twice the number of customers. Plus, there are also two 60-inch, big-screen TVs and two smaller TVs to keep up with the latest game in HD straight from our satellite dish. Not into sports? Well, there’s always the uniquely spectacular view of the Atlantic to enjoy with the Island of St. Barths rising out of the ocean mists just 10 miles away.

In addition to the stunning new interior design, amenities and view, you also have the choice of stepping outside to relax on the new rustic, slate-covered outdoor bar deck. It sports the same European umbrellas as the nearby Infinity deck, but most of the seating is on luxurious couches and chairs arranged community style. You’ll feel like you’re just happily melting away into a Caribbean dream as you sink into the vividly colored furniture. These colors not only perfectly complement and contrast with the ocean below, but also sync with the tropical colors of the Mainsail and Light House in the background. A much talked about feature of this remodel is our low-heat fire pit, which provides a subtle but fascinating light show on the deck. Suffice it to say that this outdoor bar deck is a blissful ambience to socialize while sipping your favorite beverage under the starry Caribbean skies.

Under the direction of our new Food and Beverage Manager, Enzo la Rosa, the restaurant’s menu has been improved. Some of the old favorites are still there, but he’s added several new, delectable dishes.

A little about Enzo: He was hired to replace the retiring, and beloved, Spartaco (to whom we will always and be grateful). He’s well-known and highly respected on St. Maarten for the iconic St. Maarten Italian restaurant, La Rosa — where he worked with his father first, learning the restaurant business and then later managing the restaurant. He also owned and operated Granduca in St. Maarten. Prior to that, he owned several restaurants in Europe, namely: La Marina-Puerto Banus in Malaga, Spain; La Giara in Taormina, Italy; and La Rosa Restaurant in St. Julian, Malta. He’s a well-trained and imminently qualified restaurant manager.

Make plans now to stop by and check out the new restaurant and bar. The restaurant is available for weddings, parties, meetings or other gatherings. Click here or find out more or call 721-543-6040 to make a reservation.

The Infinity Restaurant Remodel is Completed!

While the delightful ambience and succulent meals are endless at the Infinity restaurant, we’re very happy to announce the restaurant remodel has been completed. Another toast will be in order once the bar and lounge remodel is finished by mid-October.

These extensive renovations, which began last May, follow the previous renovating of all the units in the Resort.

Visitors will find the restaurant’s new furnishings and accented flooring under large, cantilevered umbrellas (imported from Europe, by the way) and stylish chandeliers greatly enhances the indoor and outdoor dining experience. The view of the tropical Atlantic is unmatched on St. Maarten, and the Infinity Restaurant offers some of the best seats in the Caribbean for taking in the sights. A greater emphasis is being given to the outdoor dining terrace, which will be open for all three meals. Guests are most welcome, weather permitting. The cantilevered umbrellas provide comfortable shade while dining or enjoying a favorite beverage. The deck’s concrete floor has been replaced with gorgeous slate — giving an ever-changing and stylish appearance.

Additional touches include a completely new look for the entry foyer, as well as rebuilt and enlarged guest restrooms (that include a room for handicapped use). With the addition of custom-built furnishings, such as a Maître d’s desk and vintage wine wall display rack, it now has a feeling of arrival and hospitality. In addition, the reworked traffic flow makes it far easier for patrons to move about the restaurant. The expanded bathrooms and upgraded furniture and decor includes tables, chairs, fabrics, wall coverings, artwork and ceiling treatments. This gives Infinity a modern and elegant look, with its traditional nod to Caribbean colors and style.

Given its exceptional location on the ocean and the absolutely magnificent view, the bar and lounge, currently under construction, will sport a sailing boat and a nautical theme utilizing marine colors and design details. It promises to make anyone feel comfortable hoisting a beer or drinking a martini — shaken, not stirred, of course. Bar service is being provided through the restaurant until the bar is completed by mid-October.

Along with the new restaurant we’ve created a new menu featuring succulent, fresh and local dishes that are sure to please all palates. We’ve modernized our selection with healthier and more delectable choices; while at the same time retained some of our favorite dishes from the previous menu.

The management of OBBR thanks all our guests for putting up with any inconveniences during the Infinity Restaurant renovations. We hope you think, as we do, that the inconvenience was worth it.

We’re going to hold off dedicating the opening of the restaurant and bar while the opening of Infinity is in its “soft phase.” This will give the staff an opportunity to learn how to operate in the new facility, and allow time for the completion of the bar and lounge remodel. The resort is planning a grand opening for both in October when the project is fully completed. It promises to be a great event, and all owners are of course invited. We’ll send out notices as soon as we have a solid date so you can book your rooms for this wonderful celebration.

Many thanks to all involved, including our great on-island staff that labored so hard, as well as our architect, Joseph Sistler of Joseph Allen and Company, and our designer, Kim Pabor of Pabor designs.

Keep an eye on this column for an upcoming announcement concerning the staff and management at the new Infinity Restaurant, Beau Beau’s and our new wonderful little Bodega.

Oyster Bay Beach Resort’s Wi-Fi Now Up To 4x Faster!

Thanks to the local cable company installing a higher-capacity fiber optic cable, our Wi-Fi services are now not only more stable but also 3-4 times faster.

For years we’ve offered Wi-Fi services at OBBR. But our Internet speed was slowed significantly by the limited “bandwidth” capacity available on the island. This caused slower download and upload speeds than most guests typically enjoy at home. We have always tried our best to expand the capacity to the highest available level on the island at the time. However, even at maximum capacity, on busy days, speeds were affected and guests often disappointed. We paid attention to the numerous complaints from guests expressed on comment cards. Unfortunately, there was little we could do because, after all, we’re on an Island that’s only 37 square miles (that’s pretty small) and there wasn’t yet an advanced fiber optic cable systems to provide the greater capacity/speed our guests deserved.

The local cable company recently finished bringing a new, modern, fiber optic cable through mountains, valleys, and jungles to our resort. We wasted no time and quickly entered into a new contract with the cable company to purchase the new high-speed fiber optic connection, which became operational three weeks ago. Having significantly increased capacity means faster speeds for downloads and uploads on your devices, as well as smoother FaceTime talks with your loved ones back home.

Our new and improved (and faster) Wi-Fi is available free of charge in the lobby and bar areas, and for a usual and customary fee in guest rooms. By charging the fee to owners and guests choosing to use the service in their rooms, we fairly allocate the cost for the service to those guests electing to enjoy the system in the convenience of their rooms . Some owners and guests do not want to stay connected to their electronic devices while on vacation and are not interested in paying for the service — especially if they’re not using it, whether it’s in their room or in one of our complimentary hot spots.

If you feel the need to stay connected while on vacation, be sure to bring your Wi-Fi enabled devices on your next visit and enjoy our vastly improved Internet connectivity for yourself.
