Here’s the inside scoop from OBBR General Manager Ricardo Perez…
The latest project is the complete renovation of the 11, 2nd-floor Courtyard units in the Courtyard building. This is the same building where the lobby, check-in and activities desks are located. Just one flight below and you’re stepping onto our old world travertine courtyard across from the newly remodeled and upgraded Infinity Restaurant Lounge and Bar. The rooms are steps away from our fabulous Infinity Pool as well.
You’ll find most rooms not only offer great views of the pool and ocean, but also have spacious balconies with spectacular, breath-taking views. Three of the units have lofts and sleep four, but are still considered “studios” for timeshare reservation purposes.
New windows and sliding glass doors will be installed in the Courtyard units. Plus, the walls will also be reoriented to provide more room and direct access to the spacious balconies, exposed spiral stair to the lofts as well as to accommodate a new, compact kitchen facility (known as a “Breakfast Bar”). Included in this remodel is new Italian porcelain and wood style floor tiles for each unit’s interior. The raised surface gives it a real wood feel and good traction while using a material that will be easy to clean and not affected by the corrosive salt air environment.
The balconies and the exterior walks will be artistically crafted with travertine marble finishes. All furniture will be replaced with modern, Caribbean, “casual chic” furnishings. Complementing the new furniture and soft goods (bedding, drapes, bed naps and art) will be completely renovated bathrooms featuring top-of-the-line fittings, vanities, cabinets, showers, commodes, and designer tile work and marble counter tops. The new “Breakfast Bar” will contain a versatile kitchen, including a mini-fridge, microwave and conventional oven, sink, and a complete set of kitchen utensils. This will allow guests to enjoy full meals in their unit or on their balcony.
Joseph Sistler of Joseph Allan and Company, along with Kim Pabor of Pabor Designs, prepared the plans for the remodeling and redecorating. This is the same team of professionals that provided the Resort with many award-winning improvements, such as the Mainsail Pavilion, Spinnaker, The Lighthouse, and the Infinity Restaurant Lounge and Bar.
Joseph and Kim prepared three separate interior designs for the rooms. “They were all so attractive,” said Ricardo, “that we couldn’t decide which one to choose, so we decided to use all three.” Not only are we pleased to have been able to get each scheme in place, but they also help to maintain a separate identity for each room, which has been a tradition in the Courtyard Building since 1972. Each unit is named after an America’s Cup racing yacht champion. The names are on plaques by the doors of the units and will remain there after the renovation as a nod to the past traditions of the old Oyster Bay Yacht Club.”
Two of the designs will be used for four rooms each and one design for the remaining three rooms. The styles were selected with the old Caribbean style in mind while embracing the modernization of the rooms and the décor. The rooms will also be equipped with 40-inch flat screen HD TVs, hi-tech thermostatic sensors, Wi-Fi, and cable TV featuring 24 stations. The rooms will be built with special sound-reduction enhancements and sound-dampening materials, which will maximize guests’ peace and quiet.
We’re excited for our owners and guests to enjoy these unique units. We think that our new boutique style accommodations will be delightful and harken back to the past Caribbean casual luxury — but with modern day amenities. Their location right in the heart of the Resort should provide guests with added excitement and convenience in a tranquil ambience.
